A member of the gesneriad family sometimes called the "guppy plant", it has pouched flowers that look like "candy corn".  Same care as for violets, but will tolerate more light and less water.  

Highly recommended for the novice with a bright window, since they are very tolerant of neglect and are virtually indestructible

Apres.  Waxy, deep orange-red flowers.  Very glossy, dark green leaves with deep maroon-red center on pale green leaf back.    Upright grower that's larger grower than most.  Very easy and constant bloomer.  Excellent.   $5.00   See photo at left.

gregarius 'Golden West'.  A must-have, if only for its wonderful, variegated foliage!  Thick, waxy green foliage with wide, bright white and yellow variegated margins.  Orange blooms with a bit of yellow.  Honestly, it's a very stubborn bloomer, but it's one of our very favorites just for its foliage.  Even if it never blooms, you'll love this plant.  $5.00    

Hawaiian Jade.  One of the showiest of the genus, a bit larger and more impressive.  Blooms of bright yellow, with orange tips.  Very glossy, medium green-gray leaves.  See photo at top of page.   $5.00  

Lemon Lime.  Brilliant lemon-yellow flowers than dangle from stems and smooth, bright green foliage.  Worthy of having, if only for the unusual, bright yellow blooms!   $5.00 

Rio.  Thick, waxy, medium green foliage and very bright orange blooms along upright stems.  New!  $5.00 

strigilossus.  Bright deep orange blooms and small, soft, somewhat fuzzy, medium green foliage.  This species has softer, more supple, foliage than the others.  Grows easily and blooms very early and readily.  $5.00  

tessmanii.  Very unusual and exotic!  Fuzzy, yellow tubular blooms with dark maroon pinstripes and very dark and showy calyces.  Dark green, red-backed foliage.  Upright, branching, grower.  Easy grower and regular bloomer, tolerant of neglect.   $6.00  Limited supply.

Tropicana.  Very unusual, it's one of our favorite plants.  Eye-catching yellow-gold blooms striped with gold and dark maroon-red.  Upright growing, very dark foliage.  Very interesting blooms have look of "tiger stripes".  Vigorous, easy grower and bloomer once mature.  $5.00  See photo at left.
