By popular demand, we offer a limited number of basic growing supplies. Though we aren't in the "supply business", we offer them for your convenience.

*All glazed, ceramic, and terra cotta pots cannot be shipped with plants and must be shipped separately! This is done to avoid possible damage to plants.

SELF-WATERING POTS

An unglazed pot inserted into glazed outer container that acts as a water reservoir. Assorted colors (you can give preference, but color choice is ours based on availability). Sizes given are inside diameter.

Important note! This type of watering system requires you to use a very porous potting soil--we suggest using a soilless medium containing at least 50% perlite (a "wicking" mix).

GLAZED CERAMIC BONSAI POTS

Lovely, affordable, pots for bonsai or as a small, decorative container. Pots come in the three shapes shown. Dimensions are 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" for small, 6" by 3 3/4" for large. Assorted colors (you can give preference, but color and shape choice is ours based on availability). Sizes given are inside diameter. Can ship up to 5 of these pots per box (at $8 shipping charge/box).

These plastic pots have the look of more expensive ceramic pots, and are perfect for use in dish gardens and other plantings.

TWEEZERS

Great for getting to places your short fingers can't! One of our most useful tools. We use both.

LEAF SUPPORT RINGS

If you plan on exhibiting your violets (or just want to grow them really well), use what the best exhibitors use.

Elisa's African Violet rings support the lower leaves of your violet, for flat, "symmetrical" growth. Holds leaves flat, exposing them to maximum light, allowing them to grow larger, better.

    6" ring (3" pots or less)       $ 2.00

Only 5 rings can be shipped with plants. Orders for rings in excess of this must be shipped separately (due to their size)!

POTTING SOILS

All-purpose, soilless potting mix. 12-quart box. $ 25.00 post-paid
This is the same mix that we use for nearly all of our plants. A sterile, soilless mix that we make ourselves, containing sphagnum peat, perlite, vermiculte and horticultural charcoal. Ideal for all the plants listed on this site, and for most watering methods.

Wicking mix. Soilless potting mix. 12-quart box. $ 25.00 post-paid
Highly recommended if you intend to "constant water", using either a wicking method or any self-watering pot or system. A sterile, soilless mix we make ourselves that contains sphagnum peat, perlite, vermiculite, and horticultural charcoal. A very light, porous, mix that can be kept constantly wet.

Coarse Vermiculite. 12-quart box. $25.00 post-paid
In important ingredient for "lightening" soils. A coarse grade not easily found in small quantities.

Extra coarse Perlite. 12-quart box. $25.00 post-paid
A critical ingredient in soil mixes used for self-watering pots or systems. If you're using "African Violet" soil purchased at a local box store or garden center, you'll need to add perlite to the mix if you plant on using a self-watering pot or system. A coarse grade nearly impossible to find in small quantities.

Soil must be shipped separately from plants and other supplies! Each box contains enough soil to repot approximately 35 plants in 4" pot, or 120 plants in 2 1/2" pots.

LIQUID-GROW FERTILIZER

We recommend using a "balanced" fertilizer, one containing approximately equal proportions of the three major nutrients, N (nitrogen), P (phosphorus) and K (potassium), as well as all of the micro nutrients and trace elements. All purpose, 7-9-5 formula contains no urea, and is the favorite of many exhibitors.

PEST, MILDEW, AND FUNGUS CONTROL

This is an all-natural product derived from the seeds of the "neem" tree of eastern India and Burma. Long used for medicinal purposes and pest control, it can safely be used in the home. It's not harmful to humans, pets, or even most "beneficial" insects, and it biodegrades in a few weeks when exposed to sunlight or soil.

It's a product that we've personally used, with some good results. It does control many pests as well as fungus and powdery mildew. If used frequently and thoroughly enough, it can even eliminate small populations of some pests. What's more, it won't damage leaves or blooms, and gives foliage a clean, "shiny", look. A safe product for home use, it's the only product that we sell for pest control.

ROOTING GEL

For propagating those difficult-to-root cuttings. We don't find this necessary for most violets but extremely helpful for older or more woody plant material. An excellent product we use. 2 oz. jar.
